Hollow Stem Augers Tool String Diagram
Hollow Stem Augers (HSA) are commonly used to set groundwater monitoring wells for environmental and geotechnical applications. With the option of an augerhead on Geoprobe ® machines you can turn 4.25 in. hollow stem augers with the same machine you had just been using for percussion probing.
Hollow Stem Auger (HSA)
Hollow Stem Auger is used primarily when the bore hole will not remain open. HSA consists of a Hollow Auger (4¼" ID). During drilling the center is filled with rods connected to a plug at the bottom bit.
Once desired depths is reached, the center rods and plug are pulled out. This leaves a cased hole for sampling or installations.
Solid Stem Auger (SSA)
Solid Stem Auger is the fastest and most effective way of retrieving samples in soft soil conditions.
By corkscrewing the Auger into the soil our drillers can retrieve a very accurate formation profile.
SSA can also be used to set monitoring wells and install instrumentation in certain soil conditions.
